Recognition of Non-Tamil Indian Languages
In 2007, the Education Minister, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced that from 2008, a grant of $1.5 million will be provided to encourage the study of non-Tamil Indian languages (NTIL) (Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu). In addition NTIL grades will be recognized by the Ministry of Education at all levels. Both of these measures will go a long way in aiding the development of the NTIL.

DAV Hindi School would like to take this opportunity to express its heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam for these timely measures that significantly aid the study of NTIL in Singapore.
