60 Years of Hindi Language Education

DAV Hindi School Singapore proudly marks a significant milestone as it celebrates 60 years of providing exceptional Hindi language education and cultural enrichment to students across Singapore. Since its establishment in 1957, the school has played a pivotal role in promoting the Hindi language, fostering cultural awareness, and empowering students from all walks of life.

A Journey Rooted in Legacy and Vision

Named after Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of the Arya Samaj movement, DAV Hindi School stands as a tribute to his vision of inclusive education. Swami Dayanand’s commitment to education for all, regardless of religion, caste, or gender, laid the foundation for the school’s mission of offering accessible and transformative education.

Since its early days, when Hindi was not part of Singapore’s mainstream curriculum, DAV Hindi School has played an instrumental role in meeting the educational needs of the local Hindi-speaking community. From modest beginnings, the school now serves over 3,600 students across multiple centers and has become one of the most respected institutions for Hindi language education in the region.

A Legacy of Growth and Community Impact

In 1963, DAV Hindi School Singapore overcame early challenges with a strong commitment to building a proper school infrastructure, thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts of the local community. The completion of the three-story building at Syed Alwi Road marked a turning point, enabling the school to serve a growing number of students.

The school’s growth was further accelerated in 1989 when the government officially recognized Hindi as a Second Language for the GCE “O” Level examination. This policy change revitalized interest in the language, increasing enrollment and solidifying the school’s role as a leader in Hindi education.

Continued Success and Excellence

Today, DAV Hindi School Singapore has evolved into a thriving institution with nine centres and over 40 parallel schools throughout the country. Offering courses for children, adults, and exam preparation, the school has seen exponential growth, becoming a beacon of excellence in Hindi education. With a dedicated team of 130 teachers and 10 administrators, the school ensures that students receive a high-quality, well-rounded education.

Cultural Immersion and Holistic Education

At DAV Hindi School, education goes beyond the classroom. The school offers a comprehensive cultural experience that includes festivals, music, dance, drama, and the study of classical Indian instruments. These activities allow students to not only learn Hindi but also develop a deeper connection to their cultural roots. The school’s commitment to values-based education ensures that students grow into responsible, culturally aware citizens.

“Our 60-year journey is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our teachers, staff, and the local community,” said Mr. Om Prakash Rai, Principal of DAV Hindi School Singapore. “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and are excited about the future as we continue to provide high-quality education and foster a deeper appreciation for the Hindi language and Indian culture.”

Celebrating 60 Years: Special Anniversary Events

To celebrate this milestone, DAV Hindi School Singapore will host a series of special events, including cultural performances, workshops, and a grand anniversary celebration that will involve students, alumni, and the wider community. These events will not only celebrate the school’s rich history but also showcase the talent and cultural vibrancy of the students.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future

As the school looks forward to the next 60 years, it remains committed to Swami Dayanand’s vision of offering education that transcends barriers and empowers individuals. The school’s focus on innovation in teaching, cultural education, and community engagement ensures that DAV Hindi School Singapore will continue to serve as a leading institution for Hindi language education.
